President and CEO, Make-A-Wish® International
As an avid surfer, facing the harsh treatments of leukemia and their effects on the body, made Linor unsure about the likelihood of continuing her passion. Before her wish was granted, she said, “It all seemed impossible to me and I wasn’t sure I would ever be able to go back into the sea.”
Knowing that your one-true-wish can be a reality, carries enormous power – not only for a wish child, like Linor, but for the entire family too. “The wish kept us going and this special day to return to the sea, to surf and to be together,” said Linor's mom.
Wish experiences, like Linor’s, allow children with critical illnesses to imagine something they once thought was impossible. Every step of the Wish Journey presents an opportunity to replace negative experiences with positive experiences. Linor was able to be a part of the design process for her new, custom surfboard which gave her something to look forward to.
By achieving the impossible, a wish can motivate the child, family and entire community, to believe in the impact of a wish.
This is the new CEO update. I hope that you enjoy the new look and features. In May, we will be training you on Salesorce as we will have a section specifically for the International Board with links to the CEO Updates, other board information, our fundraising pipeline and a secure blog to discuss important issues. Carly will be connecting with you in May.
International’s January financials appear above. As you can see, this is much better than last year and we are cautiously optimistic that we have mitigated the challenges of the Blizzard funding shortfall. Much of the uptick has to do with affiliate dues being invoiced earlier, in-kind increase with Airbnb, and timing/increase in corporate fundraising. We also will look to share some exciting news from the Walt Disney Company on a opportunity that will happen later in this fiscal year that will bring cash for the International office. Our Fidelity Investment Account sits at approximately $566,000.
We currently sit at 7 months of liquidity. Revenue, net income and liquidity all highlighted in yellow last month are now in the green. The entire International team is aggressively focused on revenue generation and managing expenses and we continue to project a break even for FY2018.
Fundraising Toolkit Update
As you know, the Board Fundraising Toolkit was developed late last year and was shared at the November Board meeting, as a resource for fundraising. Since then, we’ve updated the resources within it to fit both board and general supporter needs (e.g. committee members). The result of those updates can be found in the newly released Supporter Fundraising Toolkit.
This Toolkit and the resources within it should replace the previously shared Board Fundraising Toolkit moving forward, as information and statistics were updated across resources.
Download the toolkit here.

The next board meeting is in Hong Kong on 11-12 April. A schedule and the agenda will be sent out by March 30th, 2018. Tyler Adams will connect with you all if you have any questions about your travel, hotel or other issues. Thank you!
